K'GARI ISLAND (1) Queensland, Australia. This is a gigantic sand island off the coast of Queensland where most of the yellow sand which is swept up the east coast of Australia by the longitudinal current is deposited. K'gari has stands of Turpentine trees a salt resistant variety which were used to build the Suez Canal, The vegetation is windswept and includes species such as Hoop Pine, Banksia, coastal heath. Beautiful freshwater lakes of green and blue exist behind the hind dunes. There are pure bred Dingo dogs on the island. K'gari is well known for fishing and relaxing. It is a reserve and a very special wild place.
HUTS (2) This is where i grew up. It's a secret place, visited by Royalty, fishermen, children and all kinds and Nationalities. This is my home! From the age of fifteen i owned one of these driftwood huts. I bought it for 18 pounds. Now the government collects all the driftwod as it is a danger to shipping. Our firewood, building materials taken away from us as well as our lifestyle. We were cast out like refugees and thrown overboard never to return! (Read here "Driftwood Huts").
