The Joining of Night and Day: Where Light Meets Memory

The Joining of Night and Day: Where Light Meets Memory

Every painting begins with a feeling before it becomes an image

Introduction

Some paintings arrive slowly.

Others seem to emerge almost fully formed, carrying with them an emotion that refuses to be ignored.

The Joining of Night and Day began as an exploration of transition—those fleeting moments when darkness gives way to light, or when daylight gradually surrenders to evening.

These brief passages often pass unnoticed in our busy lives, yet they are among the most beautiful experiences nature offers.

For me, they represent more than a change in time.

They represent change itself.

The movement from one chapter of life into another.

The meeting of memory and possibility.

The place where reflection and hope coexist.

The Inspiration Behind the Painting

Living and working near Australia's coastline has given me a lifelong appreciation for light.

The coast is never truly still.

The sea changes hourly.

The sky changes minute by minute.

A sunrise can transform an entire landscape.

A sunset can make familiar places feel completely new.

Many mornings and evenings I found myself simply observing these transitions.

The colours.

The reflections.

The silence.

The sense that nature was telling a story without words.

Over time, these observations became the foundation for The Joining of Night and Day.
