The Bungelung Aboriginal Nation founded this part of the coast north of Byron Bay some 40,000 years ago. Story has it that two brothers arrived by boat and set up camp north of what is now Brunswick Heads. One brother travelled south down the coast and the other north. Both brothers made Bora Rings which are raised rings of different diameters and differing heights which were used as male initiation areas. The two rings made by the other brother to the north are highly significant. Now the structures are virtually unnoticeable on the ground. These maybe some of the oldest architectural structures in the world. I painted these rings and the surrounding bush in an effort to have them preserved as the area of coastal Heath, Melaleuca, and Callitrus Pine was destined to be destroyed by development. Now these two areas, north and south are preserved.

WETLANDS (SERIES) Small paintings which were largely inspired by the Story of Saving North Ocean Shores, (see above). This is an area with a large wetland system behind the hind-dune with ancient stands of Melaleuca, Callitrus Pine and Banksia trees.
